You can read a short biography on each candidate below.
Whilst challenging it has given me great pleasure to be the Chairman of the KCJ for the last 15 months, much has been done and there is more to do.
For over 40 years I have competed at handling, obedience, agility and breed. I continue to show dogs in the UK.
Originally, I owned Cocker Spaniels with my Mother and then in 1983 we discovered Tibetan Terriers. The TTs are joined now by Griffons and a Lhasa. I have bred and made up numerous UK champions, awarded CCs 6 times and am a member of the Kennel Club
Helen Lester – CV
I wish to stand for re-election so I may assist the Committee in meeting its objectives, as I am passionate about promoting the good work of our Club. During my 2017/18 term I actively listened to Members and increased attendance at all after show dinners. I have sought out new venues and re introduced a Christmas Lunch. My notable achievements include the enhanced DOY Gala evening, and the sponsorship I have brought to our Club over the last 15 months. I have been co-editor for our re vamped Newsletters, and assist at all our shows.
I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales
( FCA ), having qualified in 1967. I have worked in Sheffield, Durban in South Africa and latterly in Jersey where I was a partner in Ernst & Young for 20 years responsible for Trust business in the Middle East.
I have previously been Hon. Treasurer of the Kennel Club of Jersey from 1990 to 2008 . I inherited manual records but soon progressed to computer ones.
I have seen many changes to the Club over the years and served with no less than 9 different Presidents/Chairmen.
My wife, Pamela and I have owned Afghan Hounds, Whippets, Greyhounds, Salukis and a German Shorthaired Pointer.
I have been showing and breeding Boxers over the past 25 years and been on the KCJ committee for many of these years.
I have been the Registrar for 10 years and honoured to be President for the last 4 years
I have organised the Eye clinic, and Show training and Matches.
I occasionally judge at UK open and Breed shows and am on the B list for Boxers and am a member of The Kennel Club. I am still interested in helping to run our club in any way I can.
I enjoyed being the Club’s Honorary Secretary and part of the team. A lot has been achieved, and I would like to continue to support the Committee and the Club.
I have a BA degree in English Language (A. Mickiewicz University, Poznan), Certificate in Offshore Administration (Jersey Business School). I am also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS).
Dogs have always been part of my life. I own, breed and show Irish Terriers, a breed which I am very passionate about. I am a member of 3 Irish Terrier Associations in the UK and a C list judge for Irish Terriers.
Since joining the KCJ in 2012 I have been showing in the Channel Islands, UK and Europe, bred my first litter and made up two FCI International Champions.
I have been a member of the club for several years and have owned and showed various breeds, over that time.
I can talk about areas of the sport I have been involved, but what I think is more important is what I have done for the club.
I have previously served on KCJ committee as Vice Chairman, and more recently, have assisted the club in creating the new website / emails, and updated forms and governance. I have also assisted the show secretary role and undertaken a full trophy audit after the records were found to be in desperate state of imprecision.
After working hard behind the scenes during the past 12 months, I feel I have a lot more to offer, and can certainly pull my weight (and there is a lot of it! ) in most, if not all areas, of the club.
Dogs have always been a big part of my life & I enjoy being part of a busy team overseeing the smooth running of the Club. If elected I would like to continue with my allocated jobs in organizing the rosettes & running the raffles. I am also the Registered & Listed Clubs representative & as I have competed in both obedience & agility feel that I am qualified to improve links between these clubs & the KCJ.
Dear Fellow Members,
I have had the pleasure of having my bellowed Poodles all my life, my parents had them before I was born.
I have been a canine beautician since 1971 working for Ann English and Thelma Alsford, when Thelma decided to semi retire I started my own grooming business in 1985 up to present day.
I joined the Club over 40 years ago and I feel that now life is not so busy I can give some time to the Club that has given me so much over the years as showing and dogs are my passion!!
Carol A. Smithers
I have been a long serving member of the Club for many years. I enjoy helping the Club and have previously served as an ordinary committee member. I held the post of Registrar for eight years and was previously Show Secretary, a position I had to leave reluctantly and which was explained in an open letter to the membership at the last AGM. However I have been persuaded to seek re election and in doing so I am prepared to work hard to ensure the smooth running of the shows
